About the Head of School
SANDRA ROUSSELL, ED.D.
Sandra Roussell, Ed.D. is a pioneer in American education for children of color.
The founder and former administrator of Escuela de Montessori and Escuela Elementary Center in Westchester, Long Beach, and Redondo Beach, Dr. Roussell is one of the nation’s foremost experts on the Montessori method and accelerated early childhood education. Her teaching method addresses the
whole child, and places special emphasis on the development of self-esteem and character. She has over 35 years of experience in the field of education and curriculum development.
A liaison for the International Montessori Society, she is a sought after consultant on all aspects of early childhood achievement.
She is also the proud mother of two daughters, Dena, a graduate with honors of Columbia University in New York, USC School of Journalism, and Le Cordon Bleu; and Chrissy, a graduate of Georgetown University and USC School of Law.
Dr. Roussell received her B.A. degree from Sacramento State University, her M.A. degree in Psychology from USC, and her Ed.D. from Pepperdine University.
